Learn the stockman’s story at the Outback Stockman’s Show, visit a real outback station or take a Cobb and Co Stagecoach ride. A visit to Longreach is not complete without a cruise on the mighty Thomson River followed by dinner under the stars and the multi-award winning Smithy's Outback Dinner & Show.

Just down the road (in Outback terms) is historic Winton with its incredible dinosaur attractions. Join a full day tour from Longreach or drive yourself, it's bound to be a memorable adventure!

Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame

One of the best known attractions in Outback Queensland, the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame is a 'must do' while in Longreach. Take a stroll through the five themed galleries and learn the stories of our pioneering men, women and children. Open daily from 9am to 4pm excluding Christmas day and Boxing Day. The centre is also home to the Outback Stockman's Show performed by a local stockman full of great stories, working dog demonstrations and much more.

Qantas Founders Museum

What better place to learn the story of the founding of our National airline than at the Qantas Founders Museum in Longreach, the home of Qantas? Wander through the expansive gallery packed with interactive exhibits and impressive replica aircraft. Join the 90 minute Jet Tour for a 'behind the scenes' look at the two resident Boeing 747 and 707 then take a look at the amazing Catalina Flying Boat. Open daily from 9am to 5pm excluding Christmas and Boxing Day


Australian Age of Dinosaurs

Head west along the Landsborough Highway towards Winton and you'll spot the turnoff for the Australian Age of Dinosaurs, home to the largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils in the world. The guided interpretive tour includes a walk through the laboratory (where the action happens), the collection room and the new Dinosaur Canyon attraction. There's also a handy cafe and great souvenir shop on site. Open 7 days 8.30am to 5pm Apr-Oct & 6 days Nov-Mar.

Drover’s Sunset Cruise

A popular Longreach experience, your Drover's Sunset Cruise begins with top deck cruising on the Thomson River, tasty onboard nibbles and you can purchase a cool drink from the fully licensed bar. Hear wonderful stories from your captain about the river as you cruise to Sunset Bend. Take your seat Smithy’s Outback Dinner & Show on the banks of the river, for table-service dining under the stars and live entertainment on the River Stage. Tours run most days.


Wellshot Hotel, Ilfracombe

Just a 20 minute drive down the road from Longreach you'll discover Ilfracombe. While in town, pay a visit to the historic Wellshot Hotel and see the hats and money pinned to the ceiling. Quench your thirst with a cool ale, a cuppa and be sure to sample their delicious pub menu. Just across the road, take a stroll along the famous Machinery Mile, a wonderful display of machinery, some of it very rare and almost all collected within 100 miles of town.

Camden Park Country Station Tour

Find out what it's like to live and work on the land with Outback Dan, a fifth generation farmer. Tour includes lunch at the Cattleman‘s Bar and Grill and an afternoon tea and tour at Camden Park Station, just a 10 minute drive from town. Dan will take you on a guided tour through his family’s historical homestead, cattle yards and shearing shed. All visitors will receive a complimentary gift from the Walker Family as a memento of their visit. Tours run daily 12.30pm to 4pm.


School of Distance Education

Here's your chance to tour one of the largest classrooms in the world. Formerly known as Longreach School of the Air, this incredible outback service is one of only sixteen schools of its kind across the country. While on tour, visitors get to see how education is delivered using technology 'in the bush.' Tours are run twice daily at 9:00 am and 10:30 am, Monday to Friday; excluding Public holidays and the December-January School Holidays.

Outback Stockman’s Dinner & Show

Join experienced Head Stockman John Hawkes for an entertaining show about life as an Australian Stockman. Meet Horse Kenny and Olly the Steer as part of this exciting new show featuring horsemanship and traditional Australian Stockman skills. Evening Dinner and Show includes a spit roast dinner on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday nights from 5:30pm. There is also a day show only session operating Tuesdays to Sundays at 11.00am.
